Thank you marron much...

According to Wikipedia "Marron is a name given to two closely related species of crayfish in Western Australia". Seems a massive oversight that they did not mention the best Marron Farm in Kangaroo Island. Andermel Marron Cafe (http://www.andermel.com/marron.aspx) is located literally in the middle of Kangaroo Island. We drove for what seemed like hours to get to this cafe - we were super hungry so time ticks slowly, it's a scientific fact.

You have to love a place where the kitchen closes at 4pm, how many times have you suffered that fate where you've missed lunch service by 30 minutes or even 10 minutes. Being the well prepared travellers that we were, we just rolled on in at 2pm and asked for a table for 8 adults and 6 kids. "Did you have a booking?" polite waitress asks. "Pfft of course not" impolite response. They were super apologetic that they could only seat 8 adults and 2 kids on one table and 4 kids will have to sit at a separate table. That's a win.

We were there for the Marron but the kids' care factor for such things really only extended to looking at the marron tanks. So it was a good thing that they had a kids menu.

Between the 8 of us we got to try the marron in all the different offerings. I'm the worst to sit next too as I will be picking at your plate the entire time.

The Marron seafood platter was like a visual display of what over fishing might look like. The platter came with 3 dipping sauces one of which is a reduction of a lobster bisque. This platter is not for the faint hearted. There were steam marron and scallops, salt and pepper squid, chilli prawns, and chucky garlic bread.

I ordered the Marron-ara mainly for the pun of it. Again this meal was delivered on a grand scale. The sauce was aromatically and satifyingly garlicy. Seriously pasta well made is one of life's simpliest pleasures.

Our Japanese friend who was suffering rice depravation HAD to order the chilli lime marron with jasmine rice. And I HAD to support her in that decision. The waitress assured us that this was a house special and it really was.

The other house special is their garlic marron served with the chucky garlic bread. There can never be too much garlic in cooking. Never.

The Andermel Marron Farm is worth the dirt road trekking to get to. The food is excellent and fresh and there's even a celllar door to help you wash down all this delicious marron. If you're lucky enough they might even seat your kids away from you. Bliss.
